Sickle Cell Events
Sickle Cell Awareness Month – During September which is recognized as Sickle Cell Awareness Month the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, Philadelphia/Delaware Valley Chapter sponsors various events to raise awareness about sickle cell disease, sickle cell trait and the importance of testing.
Sickle Cell Seminar – The Sickle Cell Seminar addresses issues affecting the sickle cell community and helps to raise public awareness about sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait. The target audience includes individuals and their families; physicians, nurses, psychologists, educators and the community- at-large.
Walter E. Brandon Sickle Cell Walkathon – The Annual Walter E. Brandon Sickle Cell Walkathon is a major fundraiser sponsored by the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, Philadelphia/ Delaware Valley Chapter (SCDAA/PDVC) and AFSCME District Council 33. The walkathon is held the last Saturday of September. The walkathon activities include a 5K walkathon, ringing of the bell ceremony remembering those who have passed away; wellness pavilion; health screenings; community information; music and refreshments.
Sickle Cell Disease Association of America- Annual Sickle Cell Convention – The Sickle Cell Disease Association of America sponsors an annual convention to bring the latest research and psychosocial information about sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait to its member organizations; patients and families; providers and the global community.
Dancing with the Philadelphia Stars – April 2010: 2nd Annual Dancing with the Philadelphia Stars at the Hyatt Regency at Penn’s Landing, 7pm-midnight! Last year's celebrity participants included Erin Elmore from the third season of "The Apprentice", Christian Ramirez-Coll, reporter for CW Philly, Jimmy Contreras, owner of JimmyStyle, Michael Callahan, Articles Editor for Philadelphia Magazine, and Varsovia Fernandez, President of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. This is a can't-miss event, with a sellout the first year! Hope to see you there.
