Sickle Cell Disease Blood Donor Program – “Be an African-American Hero” African-American blood donors are considered the best match to donate blood to African –American children with sickle cell disease who require blood transfusion therapy support. Through the Cooperative Sickle Cell Disease Blood Donor Program, a special Blue Tag is available at blood drives to identify blood donations from those who wish to designate their blood for a child with sickle cell disease. The program partners include the American Red Cross, Blood Services, Penn Jersey Region; Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Sickle Cell Center, St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, Marian Anderson Sickle Cell Center and the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, Philadelphia/Delaware Valley Chapter. Work Place Campaign Giving – Through employee workplace giving campaigns (e.g. United Way-Specific Care Donor Option and Community Health Charities (City of Philadelphia Employees Combined Appeal; State Employees Combined Appeal (SECA); Combined Federal Campaign and the School District of Philadelphia).

Leroi Simmons Sickle Cell Disease Scholarship Fund – Assists students affected by sickle cell disease who are seeking higher education.

Sickle Cell Awareness Month Events – Support the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, Philadelphia/Delaware Valley Chapter by participating in their annual Sickle Cell Seminar and the Walter E. Brandon Sickle Cell Walkathon.

Speakers Bureau – Speakers are available to help raise awareness about sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait at civic; business; community; social; educational and Greek –letter organizational events.
